Position Summary
The Senior Paralegal, Advertising will provide legal support to Under Armour's marketing initiatives, advertisements, and promotions. This teammate will be cross-collaborating with marketing business units and supporting in-house counsel with legal review and clearance of advertising. The Senior Paralegal, Advertising will help #ProtectThisHouse by providing support with the protection and enforcement of trademarks as well as other intellectual property.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage the legal review process for marketing initiatives, advertisements, and promotions, working with supervising attorneys
- Review advertising and promotional materials (including hang tags, packaging, point-of-sale, digital content, copy, disclosures, and disclaimers) to ensure compliance with advertising and intellectual property laws and regulations
- Draft/review rules for sweepstakes, contests, and giveaways
- Draft/review waivers and releases for events, activations, store openings, and other promotions, including publicity, trademark, and copyright releases
- Support global teams on marketing-related activities and co-branded partnerships
- Educate and train the organization on legal aspects of marketing, advertising, and promotions, assisting with the development of policies, templates, guidelines, and training materials
- Assist in evaluating and validating advertising claims, including reviewing evidence to substantiate claims
- Perform marketing and advertising legal research (U.S. and non-U.S.)
- Assist in monitoring advertising-related legal and regulatory trends impacting UA products, including FTC guidelines related to online advertising, influencers, and environmental claims
- Conduct meetings with outside law firms, vendors, and internal business partners to advise on the status of pending advertising and enforcement matters
- Prepare and file copyright applications with the US Copyright Office
- Draft trademark authorization letters requested by business/regional teams
- Support and assist with US and foreign trademark enforcement proceedings, including collection and review of documents and other materials
- Assist with drafting legal documents, including cease and desist letters, fame affidavits, and Notices of Opposition
- Manage domain name acquisitions, registrations, and renewals
- Assist with administrative tasks, as needed
- Supervise and delegate work to other paralegals and legal assistants
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
- Willingness to work as part of a team and ability to work independently
- Strong project management abilities and organizational skills, with exceptional attention to detail to manage multiple priorities
- Proactive in taking the initiative to address complex problems and devise solutions or strategies
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive and confidential material
- Occasional extra hours may be required during peak times
- Proven knowledge of advertising law and policy
Education And / Or Experience
- Bachelor's degree required, legal coursework a plus
- At least seven (7) years of experience in-house or law firm focusing on advertising and trademark law, patent experience a plus
- Knowledgable with electronic matter management systems and with trademark docketing systems (i.e., FoundationIP, CPI, PATTSY)
Other Requirements
- Location: This individual must reside within commuting distance from our global headquarters in Baltimore, MD
- Work-Life Designation: Three (3) days a week in-office, the remainder of work week remote
- Licenses/Certifications: Paralegal certificate preferred
- Global company experience preferred
Relocation
- No relocation provided
- Base salary range: $110,921.00 - $152,516.10 USD
Most new hires fall within this range and have the opportunity to earn more over time. Initial placement within the salary range, however, is based on an individual's relevant knowledge, skills and experience for the position.
